Gaining access to export markets can be a good way of continuing growth in tough economic conditions. However when you are looking to access new markets in non English speaking countries there are a couple of issues that you need to address. Firstly you need to setup a top level domain for the targeted region / country (search implications of the server location & top level domain). Then you need to generate some unique content for the site in the local language. Very often this will be the toughest nut to crack.

While in theory it should be as simple as using Google translate to quickly translate your existing content you are unlikely to achieve your desired results with this approach. The subtle shift in meaning of various words used in a variety of contexts is beyond the capabilities of most automated translations systems. The best method is still to use a native speaker to translate your website content into the chosen language. The native speaker’s understanding of the language and culture will ensure that your sales proposition still works and does not give offence to your target audience.
