A recent survey featured on the BBC news website states that clothing sales figures had improved whereas alcohol had dipped.

Research group IMRG Capgemini cited online sales figures rose by 15.7% in July compared with the previous month achieving total sales of £4.2bn. Clothing led the increased figures whereas the poor summer may be responsible for the slower demand in other product sectors as outside events were cancelled.

One element highlighted in the article is the conversion rate, basically the amount of sales to visitors on a website. Statistics indicate that one in 15 visitors bought items indicating that online merchants are marketing their sites and products more effectively. This reflects more sophisticated marketing strategies being used more effectively like email marketing.

eCommerce websites or ‘on-line shops’ as they are otherwise known provide the ideal platform from which to launch your Internet business. Whether you are a sole trader looking to trade for the first time or a seasoned retailer looking to compliment your high street shop, having the ability to sell your products on-line makes great sense.

Why eCommerce you may ask?

Here are a few thoughts on the advantages of trading on-line.

low start up costs and ongoing costs compared to setting up or running a traditional retail outlet

opportunity to reach wider audience (local, national, international)

on-line payments mean you have better cashflow

website administration is easier than ever so you can manage your ‘shop’ from any location with basic computer skills

trading on-line provides you with an opportunity to run your own business from home if necessary

24hour shop means you are always open even when you are asleep!

just think of the amount of time you can save if your clients can serve themselves and pay leaving you to just ship out the products!

Lace design company Neil Thorpe Draughting, based in Long Eaton,Nottingham, saw the launch of their new look website. Neil Thorpe and his team are well known in the textile sector in both the UK and abroad as forward thinking lace designers and draughtsmen creating innovative and technically accurate lace designs and drafts for a range of customers.

Clients range from small family textile companies through to large corporate manufacturers worldwide. Lace designers are responsible for creating the exquisite designs that can be seen in market leading lingerie and clothing. Neil Thorpe Draughting designers access one of the UK’s largest trend libraries including forecasters like Carlin, Peclers, Nelly Rodi and Style Sight which is used to support their own design library.

Initial designs are hand drawn and from there a process begins to ensure that designs can be manufactured on specific machinery that is available. The finished result is a solution that works well for clients. From hand drawn designs to draughting (sketching) onto graph paper using a technique passed down through generations, the draughtsmen use their skill and experience to manually adjust the pattern to ensure that the finished draft will replicate the selected design. This close attention to detail ensures that the customer receives a pattern which incorporates all the required technical information to enable lace development to begin.

As well as providing background to the company and it’s methods, the website also features a password protected customer area which enables them to view their lace design collections. This unique viewing area has been set up to provide a service to existing clients where they can have access to lace displays via their browser.
