Tips for creating your GDPR opt in campaign

You’ll already be aware that GDPR is well on the way, and you’ll no doubt have already received messages asking for you to opt-into receive e-mails, so communications remain GDPR compliant. 

If you’re crafting an opt in e-mail for your contacts, here are some good examples that you can take inspiration from to ensure you include everything you need, along with some top tips to nail an opt-in email campaign. 

Use an interesting subject header to grab users interest 

No matter what they say, people do judge emails by their subject lines. 

In fact, 47% of email recipients decide whether or not to open an email based on subject line alone. Making it so important to craft subject lines that are compelling enough to get people to click through. 

Football club Manchester United chose to go all-out with their opt-in email. Capturing the attention of their customers with a message from Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea. To tempt the recipient in to opening, the subject header was personalised, along with a creative and humorous animation in the body text to ensure opt-in sign ups. 

 

Give details of what will happen if they don’t act 

As well as ensuring your recipient knows about the GDPR it’s also an idea to let them know what they’ll be missing if they don’t opt-in.  

Entice your customers into continuing to receive your emails by letting them know what they’ll miss if they don’t. Offers, discounts, and exclusive news are just a few of the things to mention, like this great example from The National Trust. 

Create user-friendly landing pages for click-through 

If your recipient agrees to opt-in they’ll expect the process to be hassle-free, otherwise they’re likely to give up and not bother. A user-friendly landing page that’s easy to navigate is a must. Simple tick boxes work effectively as they’re easy to operate and also look great too. 

Online retailer ASOS created a simple to use landing page for their opt in – to make the process as simple as possible for their customers.
