Our intrepid trio of trekkers – Sam, Katrina and Hayley – battled blazing heat, bugs and blisters on their way to raising a £500 target for charity last week.

The team took part in the 2018 T20 Walkathon Rockfall Team Challenge, which saw them brave the balmy weather conditions to trek the 20 miles between Nottingham’s Trent Bridge cricket ground and the 3aaa County Ground in Derby. Representatives from other local businesses also took part.

The event was held to raise cash for the Cricket Derbyshire Foundation, to support the delivery of a range of community projects to young people across the county, using the power of sport.

Starting at 11am at Trent Bridge, the team completed the trek between the two iconic sports grounds in 7 hours (with a few stops along the way), arriving at the 3aaa just in time for a celebratory drink before watching Derbyshire Falcons take on the Notts Outlaws in their Vitality Blast T20 clash, which the Outlaws won by 39 runs.

Katrina said: “This was a very physically-demanding challenge. It was a fun day, but very hard work. The sunshine, heat and humidity were unrelenting and as we notched the miles up, the harder and more uncomfortable it got. But, it was the team spirit between the three of us that kept us determined to see things through.

“We are passionate supporters of grass-roots sport here at Purpose Media and the Cricket Derbyshire Foundations does such great work with young people in the community, so it was great to raise some cash to help support its activities and initiatives – it makes the achy legs and blisters well worthwhile!”

It’s not the first charity challenge the trio has undertaken this year. In March, they spent a night under the stars in the icy cold and damp during a business sleep-out event, which saw them raise £450 for a YMCA Derbyshire campaign to help the homeless.

They are still taking donations to the T20 Trek fund and you can donate online here.
