PM talks business in Westminster

Marketing Director Katrina joins regional business delegation in House of Commons

Katrina Starkie, our Marketing Director, joined a delegation of business leaders from across the region in Westminster as they delivered a message to Government to refocus on domestic issues to ensure a successful transition to a post-Brexit economy.

Led by our good friends at East Midlands Chamber, of which we are a proud strategic partner, the delegation went to the heart of Government to deliver a wish list of what they want from elected members and civil servants.

Katrina was one of around 30 local business leaders at the event, at which more than 20 MPs and at least one Minister, saw Chamber Chief Executive Scott Knowles launch a manifesto setting out the demands of regional business.

The aim of the visit was to raise awareness in both Whitehall and Westminster of what East Midlands businesses believe are the biggest issues blocking regional growth.

It will also give local MPs the opportunity to mingle with local businesses to hear at first hand what’s going well and what is holding them back.

The timing of the event couldn’t have been more crucial, coinciding with a crucial emergency Cabinet meeting which saw Prime Minister Theresa May secure agreement for her Brexit divorce deal with the EU.

Katrina Starkie, on a recent trip to the capital.

Katrina said: “As we’ve said before, there’s no doubt that Brexit will create huge challenges for business, but at the same time, it will create great opportunities. Businesses need to be brave and grab them with both hands.

“As a long-standing partner of the Chamber, we were delighted to have the opportunity to take the message to the heart of Parliament that businesses in the East Midlands stand ready to help make Brexit a success.

“It all comes down to planning. If you have clear objectives, a vision of how to get there and a strategy to make it happen, you can still succeed, in spite of Brexit.”
