Our annual ‘Play on the Pitch’ charity football tournament featuring families, coaches and players from Sleetmoor United has raised over £2300!
Money will go towards the funding of new footie facilities for grass roots football in Derbyshire.
The tournament took place at the New York Stadium, home to Rotherham United FC over the bank holiday weekend and was arranged by the team at Purpose Media.
A full day of tournament style games took place and over 150 young footballers of all ages competed in friendly games.
Team Purpose Triumph
This was followed by the highlight of the day, Sleetmoor Dads v Team Purpose! Last year Team Purpose took a hammering from the Sleetmoor dads, and with Purpose 2 nil down at half time it looked like the 2019 match was going to be another defeat.
However, Team Purpose turned it around in the second half, with the first Purpose goal scored by Sales Executive Liam Brown, 3 more goals followed scored by Creative Director Claudio Davanzo and two goals from Account Director Jamie Bourn.
At the final whistle the game was won by Purpose Media with a 4-3 win.

Commenting, Purpose Media Managing Director, Matt Wheatcroft said, “Both of my daughters play football for Sleetmoor so I’ve witnessed first-hand how being able to take part in a team activity within such a close knit community has benefited everyone involved. Events like this help to unite the club and the community together to galvanise the support we need to help us achieve our vision.”
The event was vital fundraiser for Sleetmoor United as they step up efforts to raise match funding to install a new 4G pitch. The Club is about to submit its business plan to apply for Football Foundation funding. If successful, the increased funding will hopefully see a grander scale vision come to fruition to include brand new changing facilities, a community hall and other spaces that be used commercially.
Sleetmoor United Football Club, founded in 2016, brought together three teams – ADASC FC, GFC Alfreton Girls and Ladies and Leabrooks Juniors Football Club – to form a single club with a united vision. Purpose Media created the new Sleetmoor United FC branding as part of their CSR strategy and commitment to support their local community.
