SEO – Our Top Tips

SEO can be a complex subject.

Trust us, we know.

It’s taken our digital marketing wizards’ years to master the art of SEO and there’s always something new to learn. So, to make things a tiny bit easier here’s our top SEO tips to help you get the ball rolling.

Focus on The User, Not the Search Engine

Writing with the intent to rank high in search results really isn’t the right motivation. Instead, think first about the users. If we do things that make sense for users, they will also make sense for search engines.

Prioritising users above search engines helps increase your chances of earning a top ranking and with a top ranking comes increased traffic and visibility.

Every search has a specific intent whether it is to find, learn, fix, buy or solve and we are judged on how well we satisfy these searches.

How Content is Structured Will Help It Rank

There are a lot of things to keep in mind when optimising your site for search engines. Site structure is one of the most important, but one of the most overlooked optimisation methods.

When building a new site, start by mapping out your site structure in a hierarchy which you can easily create a URL structure for. This will increase usability and help search engines rank the content you wish to be found for. If you have a great site structure, then great SEO will follow.

And when writing a piece of content for your site, it helps if you answer the query quickly and in the beginning of the piece. This helps the search engine understand what your content is about, pushing you up in the ranks.

Avoid SEO Manipulation

Search engine manipulation is the darker side of SEO. It involves tactics that add nothing to the user experience and frequently make it worse. Including, keyword stuffing, creating lots of poor-quality pages, building artificial link networks, or creating misleading pages.

There is a grey area when it comes to SEO manipulation, after all, where do you draw the line with keyword optimising and stuffing?

It’s important to remember that by playing to the rules and avoiding doing anything you believe to be wrong will set you on the track for SEO success.
