John Starkie is Purpose Media’s Head of Video.

John began his career within the journalism industry, graduating with a BA (Hons) Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Nottingham Trent University. Whilst studying, John headed up the production department at Trent TV, the University’s online TV station.

Working on all aspects of video, John developed a love for the industry, before going on to set up video production company A-Star Media in 2008 as Technical Director. At A-Star, John specialised in affordable video production for web distribution.

After seven successful years at A-Star Media, the company merged with Purpose Media after recognising a clear synergy between the two companies. Now part of the PM team, John continues to run the video side of the businesses, creating engaging films and animation that deliver on client objectives and support their wider marketing strategy.

While John has a great understanding of business and the way videography sits within it, his primary areas of knowledge lie within video, animation, video marketing and video narrative.

Outside of work, John partakes in a lot of charity work and is always up for trying new things. In the past five years alone, John has run a marathon and completed two coast to coast bike rides, cycling from London to Paris and completing a whopping 300 miles from Newcastle to London.

More recently, John is trying his hand at open water swimming. He plans to swim the River Forth, hoping to raise even more vital funds for charity.

When John’s not busy pushing himself to the limits, he likes to spend time in his allotment where he grows a variety of vegetables, including squashes and chillies, and tends to his family of chickens.

John also enjoys home brewing his own ales which he likes to share with his family and friends.
