Board role for Purpose Media rising star

Purpose Media partnerships manager Ruby Birks has been appointed to the board of a business organisation which supports young professionals working across the East Midlands.

Generation Next, run by East Midlands Chamber, offers networking opportunities, skills webinars and mentoring for more than 300 members, aged between 18 and 35.

Ruby joined the initiative three years ago, became an Apprenticeship Ambassador 12 months later and was then recognised as its Apprentice of the Year for 2022 and Rising Star in 2023.

Now she has been given a seat on the board, helping guide and promote Generation Next and encourage new members.

Ruby joined Purpose Media as a digital project apprentice in 2021 and, after completing her apprenticeship with a distinction, was promoted to project manager, overseeing schedules, scope, cost and resources for projects the agency carries out for clients, and is now partnerships manager, ensuring client satisfaction.

She is in no doubt that the experience gained through her involvement with Generation Nexthas aided her progression.

Gen Next has been a fantastic springboard for my career,” she said.

I wouldn’t be where I am now without the support of the network and the profile that’s come with being involved in it. I can’t wait to use my board position to give back to the region the same support I have received.

Generation Next has just completed its first ever Young Professionals in the East Midlands Survey, with the aim of helping businesses in the region understand the development needs and preferences of the existing and future workforce.

Maintaining a healthy work-life balance was ranked as the most important aspect by 34 per cent of those questioned, with flexible working and continuous personal development also high on the list.

The findings were discussed at the inaugural Generation Next Conference, held at Nottingham Forest FC’s City Ground stadium on January 12th.
