Purpose Media’s COVID-Safe Filming Procedures

Coronavirus will be with us for a while longer, but that doesn’t mean the action has to stop.

Here at Purpose Media, we’re operating a business as usual approach, whilst operating in a COVID safe way.

This means the PM filming team have been back out recording great content for our clients over the last few months. We are doing this safely, following all guidelines from both the Government and the APA.

To ease your mind about our filming procedures, we’ve created a short checklist to reassure clients we’ve got everything covered. To keep you and our teams safe and producing high-quality video content at the same time.

1. Planning

We’re ensuring every shoot is planned with COVID in mind. We’re doing this through detailed risk assessments, client liaison and consideration during all elements of pre-production. Plus, we’ll be reducing the amount of crew present for all productions to minimise contact.

So far this has proven to be very effective. Smaller, agile teams working quickly to minimise time on site, and getting great shots all whilst keeping everyone comfortable and safe.

2. PPE and Hygiene

Increased hygiene is a must. Before we hit the ‘record’ button, all client and team members will get a temperature check, hand sanitiser will be freely available and sanitation breaks will be a regular feature of the shoot. PPE will also be worn at all times.

We are taking precautions to ensure safe filming at all times

3. Filming Equipment

We own all our own equipment and ensure it is cleaned regularly. We’re also forming bubbles with equipment, meaning only one team member can handle equipment during the shoot. This may be the camera operator handling the camera and lighting, or the photographer handling the DSLR. Boom poles will be used to capture audio and clip mics are forbidden for now. Social distancing will be strictly enforced for both the crew and the client.

If there is any doubt, animate or recycle your video content

Some projects will inevitably present too much of a risk. Or it just may not be appropriate for your business. If this is the case, then it doesn’t mean you can’t have great video content.

If you’ve already got some footage, we can re-edit it to serve a new purpose.

Take a look at this example from Guinness who did just that for St Patrick’s Day at the start of lockdown:

Or alternatively, you can choose an animation. Animation allows us all the creativity and freedom in our arsenal without having to get near anyone!

With a solid plan and strict adherence to the guidance, there is nothing stopping us from getting effective and engaging video content for our clients. It’s still really important for brands and businesses to continue to engage with audiences and video is a great way to do this.

If you’re interested in harnessing the power of video or creating a cracking animation, we’d be more than happy to help.
