Creating a digital platform that matches cricket club’s ambition

OBJECTIVES

Derbyshire County Cricket Club has a proud 155-year history and is building momentum after several years of strong financial performance and renewed success on the field. The club wanted to deepen fan engagement, grow ticket sales across cricket and non-cricket events, and raise awareness of its expanding conferencing and hospitality offer.

STRATEGY

We have supported the club for more than a decade, so we understood the need for an online presence that reflected its ambition and the growing optimism at the Central Co-op County Ground.

Our approach was simple: create two refreshed and improved websites, one to champion the energy around the first team, women’s squad and pathway players, and a second giving prominence to the venue’s year-round events and high-quality conference facilities.

We also supported the club in securing funding through the Derby Business Growth and Innovation Fund, enabling the project to progress at pace.

The new cricket website is image-led and built to showcase the excitement on the field of play. It highlights match action, squad updates, news and features, while the online shop makes it easy for supporters to, efficiently and securely, buy kits and merchandise.

The separate conferencing and events site can be accessed from the cricket homepage or directly via its own URL. It promotes the club’s full events programme, including major annual fixtures such as its fireworks night and funfair and outdoor concerts. It also provides a clear view of the County Ground’s meeting and hospitality spaces, supported by professional photography that helps potential clients visualise what the venue can offer.

Behind the scenes, both sites have been engineered for flexibility and performance, ensuring they load quickly and can scale with growing demand.

RESULTS

The new websites have been well received by both the club and its audiences.

Performance on the conference and events site, launched first, has been particularly strong:

  • Sessions up 108%
  • Page views up 90%
  • New users up 105%
  • Form enquiries up 139%

Cricket club chief Executive Ryan Duckett said: “Purpose Media has been an important long-term partner, and its expertise has helped us to better understand our target audiences and to reach out to them effectively.
